Family, friends flock to Colgate for special weekend

| Comments (0)

video iconHundreds of family members and friends of Colgate students strolled through campus and attended numerous events held as part of a busy Family Weekend.

Students introduced their parents to faculty members at the open houses and receptions held by the academic departments, and President Rebecca Chopp greeted guests at a reception held Saturday morning at the O'Connor Campus Center.

Joachim Homann, curator of the university's Picker Art Gallery, and student interns led guests on a tour of selections from the more than 10,000 objects in the museum's permanent collection.

The university's dinosaur egg drew an admiring crowd, and several shows were held at the new Ho Tung Visualization Lab at the Robert H.N. Ho Science Center.

Parents also learned how they can use the new online billing and payment system established by the Office of Student Accounts. The system is one of the ways the university is looking to reduce its use of paper and is a way for parents to get up-to-date information at any time.

Many students playing Division I athletics had a chance to perform in front of their family members and friends as the men's football, hockey, swimming, and soccer teams all were in action, along with the women's volleyball, soccer, swimming, and hockey teams.

The Raiders football team came back from a 10-0 halftime deficit to beat Lafayette, 21-13, in front of 6,721 fans at Andy Kerr Stadium.

The Colgate victory leaves the Raiders in a first place tie with Holy Cross in the Patriot League standings as they extended their winning streak to six games.

There was a lot of catching up to do during the long weekend. SEE MORE PHOTOS HERE. (Photo by Andy Daddio)
