Gingrich to discuss Obama, GOP in March 26 lecture

| Comments (2)

gingrich.jpgNewt Gingrich, former speaker of the House of Representatives, will deliver a lecture at 7:30 p.m. March 26 in Memorial Chapel.

During his talk, "President Obama & the Future of the American Freedom," Gingrich will assess Obama's policies and administration and discuss the future of the Republican Party.

Gingrich's lecture, sponsored by the university's Center for Freedom and Western Civilization and the College Republicans, is free and open to the public.

"Gingrich is one of the most influential 'ideas men' of our time," said Robert Kraynak, political science professor and director of the Center for Freedom and Western Civilization. "The campus community will find the depth of his talk to be intellectually stimulating."

John Lyon '11, College Republicans president and one of the event organizers, said, "Regardless of whether or not you agree with Gingrich's ideas, his lecture will provide inspiration and excitement."

Gingrich, who spent 20 years in Congress, is best known for helping to create the 1994 "Contract with America" that helped the Republican Party regain control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years.

In addition to being an author of several books that have been on bestseller lists, Gingrich founded a consulting firm and established American Solutions, a think tank based in Washington, D.C.

In 1995, he was named "Man of the Year" by Time magazine.

(In the event of a capacity crowd, the lecture will be broadcast in 209 Lathrop Hall.)

Newt Gingrich may be a "Man of the Past" but his words are still worth listening to today.
Much more so than most of the current so called politicians.
Our country would do much better if it followed his lead.
He is not afraid to speak of God and Country in the same breath!

I have to agree that Gingrich is a strong speaker regardless of where one party loyalty lies. The first time I heard him live was at the Christian United For Israel(CUFI)Reception in Washington D.C in 2007. I love his boldness and wondered what the Republicans still needed! Action? The Party has to give its reins over to bold emerging leaders. Too much fear is in the higher echelon for whatever reason. There is a saying "in losing you gain much more"(like pruning of a tree). There must be clarity, where you have two Masters in politics, the stronger one will dominate, regardless of your registration. I love Colin Powell, though he works with the Democrats there is not doubt where his loyalty lies. All Republicans should take his lead, though it calls for great discipline and strong self value. I wish you an empowering and engaging Speaker's session.
