Tickets for former Secretary of State Colin Powell's lecture, "Leadership: Taking Charge," at Colgate are now available to the public.

As part of the university's Global Leaders Lecture Series, Powell will give a talk at 8 p.m. Friday, April 3. in Sanford Field House. There is no charge for a ticket, which is required to attend the event.

The public can reserve general admission tickets (limit four per order) by going to the Colgate Bookstore website or calling 877-362-7666 while supplies last.

For group reservations or special needs, please reserve your tickets online and follow the instructions. The office of special events for advancement will contact you shortly after you make your reservations.

Now in its third year, the Global Leaders Lecture Series, sponsored by Colgate's Parents' and Grandparents' Fund, allows the university to invite high-profile guests to campus.

Last April, nearly 5,000 people packed into Sanford Field House to hear the Dalai Lama offer words of wisdom about achieving happiness.

Other lecture series speakers have included Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner, award-winning authors of Freakanomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything.

Backpacks, large handbags, and food/drink will not be permitted in Sanford Field House for the Powell talk. The use of cameras, cell-phone cameras, video cameras, and recording equipment of any kind is prohibited.

See the Global Leaders Lecture Series website for the latest information regarding Powell's visit to Colgate.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The photography policy is set forth by the individual speaker, in this case Colin Powell. Depending on the speaker, there are a variety of different reasons for a "no photography" rule, including copyright issues, security, and distractions while the lecture is in progress.

I hope that Gen. Powell will stick around for an autograph session after the lecture. I'm not happy about this "camera policy" of the school whereas you can't even bring in a simple point-n-shoot camera to grab a photo or 2! So what if someone wants to take a picture. If you want to make it "no flash photography" out of respect for Gen. Powell...FINE. But to say "the use of cameras, cell-phone cameras....is prohibited" is just plain wrong in my view, and I've seen more than my share of high profile guests or celebrities! They're not God! So...at least allow people to shake hands with the man afterward okay!?
