Diwali celebration fills Ho Science Center atrium

| Comments (0)

video iconDiwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, was celebrated this past weekend in the brightly decorated atrium of the Ho Science Center.

Members of the campus community filled the atrium for the Saturday night event, which was organized by the Hindu Student Association (HSA).

The Festival of Lights marks the Hindu new year, and it is meant to be a colorful and happy occasion.

Draped saris and lights in the shape of diyas adorned the atrium, and Indian food was brought in and enjoyed by the big crowd.

A Hindu priest conducted a brief puja, or ceremony, in front of the students and staff members sitting on cushions.

Diwali is the biggest event organized by the HSA, which was founded in 2002. The group promotes an understanding of the complex Hindu culture and tradition by having an open membership and sponsoring events such as Diwali.
