Students in the AMS program visited the Stanley Theater in Utica, NY to see a performance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater on April 29, 2014. Joined by Mary Simonson, Asst. Professor of Film & Media Studies and Women’s Studies at Colgate, students enjoyed a stunning performance by one of America’s most esteemed dance companies. The two-hour show was virtuosic, but a particular favorite among AMS students was “Takademe,” with choreography by Robert Battle, that performs a “savvy deconstruction of Indian Kathak dance rhythms.”

On April 28, AMS students, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate the many accomplishments of graduating seniors. The event, a dinner held at the Colgate Inn, saw over 50 people in attendance. Students in the class of 2014 were given commemorative glasses to recognize their substantial collective accomplishments, both inside and outside of the classroom. Their post-graduation plans are equally impressive. From the JET program, computer programming at Coursera, and graduate school in the humanities and sciences: the range of academic interests demonstrated by students in the AMS program is reflected also in the diversity and high caliber of their activities after Colgate.
