Seniors highlighted through Google map mashup
A Google mashup provides a fun way to see where Colgate's seniors are headed after graduation.
The online map allows you to click on a pushpin or a name to see what graduates will be doing - whether it's a job, graduate school program, or fellowship - and where they will be doing it.
"We're proud of what our seniors have accomplished during their four years here and prouder still of what we know they will accomplish after commencement," said Colgate President Rebecca S. Chopp. "Whether it's with the Peace Corps or on Wall Street, our graduates will make a difference in the world."

Dalai Lama discusses education in Colgate podcast
During his recent visit to campus the Dalai Lama met with Colgate President Rebecca Chopp and Dean of the College Charlotte Johnson for a special episode of Colgate Conversations, the university's podcast series that highlights members of the campus community.
In the audio interview, the Dalai Lama talks about education and its role in achieving happiness.
He speaks about "warm-heartedness" and other characteristics that can help students at Colgate and elsewhere become compassionate global leaders.
The discussion, which also was videotaped, delves more deeply into some of the topics His Holiness raised during his public appearance at Colgate on April 22, when he spoke to nearly 5,000 people.

Senior hopes to get under-30 crowd fired up to vote

As the presidential candidates battle for the White House, Colgate senior Bobby Campbell has been on a mission of his own: to transform politically apathetic college students into engaged voters.
Fueled by his passion for politics and frustration with the low turnout of young voters in past elections, Campbell took matters into his own hands in hopes of getting the under-30 crowd fired up to vote.
"I couldn't sit still any longer," the political science major said.

Lacrosse teams give Raiders fans day to remember
One goal.
That slimmest of margins was the difference in two thrilling victories Saturday for the Colgate men's and women's lacrosse teams.
Both teams are headed to the NCAA Tournament, but first they get a chance to revel in their home victories that fueled the passions of Raider Nation and established several "firsts" for the programs.
The men's team beat the No. 2 squad in the nation -- Syracuse -- by a score of 12-11 at Andy Kerr Stadium. The Raiders held off a furious rally by the Orange to secure the win in front of 4,572 fans.

Fellowships offer students wide range of options
Colgate students nominated for highly selective fellowship programs were honored last week during a Merrill House luncheon.
Provost Lyle Roelofs commended the students for their interest in extending their educations and serving as ambassadors for Colgate in the global community.
"It's important for us as an institution to provide the resources for these students to pursue these kinds of rigorous opportunities," said Roelofs. He was joined by several faculty members at the lunch, which was organized by Ann Landstrom, associate director for fellowship, scholarship, and graduate school advising for the university's Center for Career Services, along with Kelly Snyder in the Dean of the Faculty office.

Personal nature of visit means so much to students
For Stephanie Macomber '08, the Dalai Lama's discussion about religion and spirituality was the culmination of her four years on campus as a religion major and member of University Church.
"One of my most influential professors, Professor Sindima of the religion department, once told me, 'an unexamined faith is no faith at all.' He couldn't be more accurate," Macomber said. "By examining my faith I have learned a lot about religious tolerance in a time when our world certainly needs it. I was so deeply impacted by the Dalai Lama's words because all of our differences, whether racial, economic, or religious are just secondary to our likeness as humans."

Dalai Lama discusses sciences at new center
On the second day of his Colgate visit, the Dalai Lama was given a glimpse of home when he was treated to a presentation on the constellations of the night sky over Lhaso, Tibet, in the visualization lab of the Robert H.N. Ho Science Center.
His Holiness then participated in "A Dialogue on Science and Religion" in the center's Meyerhoff Auditorium with faculty panelists Lyle Roelofs, Vic Mansfield, Harvey Sindima, and David Dudrick.

Dalai Lama offers words of wisdom about happiness
Nearly 5,000 people streamed into Hamilton, across Colgate's campus, and into Sanford Fieldhouse to hear His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama speak about happiness -- that illusive quality that all human beings want, yet find so hard to achieve.
Before beginning, he removed his shoes and arranged himself slowly in a cross-legged position in the oversized crimson leather chair that was made for the occasion.
