Slater brothers sponsor film festival in Hamilton
A little piece of Hollywood is coming to downtown Hamilton this summer thanks to the efforts of Grant Slater '91 and his two brothers, Wade and Todd. They are the sons of the late Colgate men's hockey coach Terry Slater, and founders of Slater Brothers Entertainment (SBE).
SBE will hold its first-ever Hamilton Film Festival and Awareness Walk from Aug. 7-8.

Renowned black theologian discusses 'strange fruit'
James H. Cone, widely credited with founding the black theology movement, spoke Thursday in Memorial Chapel about his seminal works from nearly 40 years ago and his current research, which focuses on the emotional symbols of the cross and the lynching tree.
Cone said his lecture was intended to start a conversation, and students and faculty members took him up on that as they asked questions about everything from atheism to President Obama's impact on race relations.

Guest lecturer sparks dialogue about hip-hop, race
Michael Eric Dyson is not afraid to shake things up, which is why his lecture "From Sit-ins to Hip Hop: A Social Consciousness in a Post-King America" left students both moved intellectually and shaking with laughter.
Named by Ebony as one of the 100 most influential black Americans, Dyson is a university professor at Georgetown and author of 14 books.
