Seniors told they can overcome tough economy

video icon Members of the senior class flocked to campus this past weekend to attend Real World events, and one of the main messages they heard from alumni was that a liberal arts education will serve them well in any economic climate.

Real World involves networking events and more than 30 panel discussions led by alumni involved in careers from fashion to finance.

Carole Robinson '83 kicked off things as keynote speaker, and she recalled working as a tour guide while at Colgate and how she was practically a walking advertisement for the university.

Alumni Council event helps students explore careers

Alumni Council members spent time recently with current students, talking about a range of career paths and sharing their workplace experiences.

The informal mixer held Sept. 18 at the Colgate Bookstore was sponsored by the Center for Career Services.

Seniors highlighted through Google map mashup

A Google mashup provides a fun way to see where Colgate's seniors are headed after graduation.

The online map allows you to click on a pushpin or a name to see what graduates will be doing - whether it's a job, graduate school program, or fellowship - and where they will be doing it.

"We're proud of what our seniors have accomplished during their four years here and prouder still of what we know they will accomplish after commencement," said Colgate President Rebecca S. Chopp. "Whether it's with the Peace Corps or on Wall Street, our graduates will make a difference in the world."

Search engine expertise fuels story about alumni

Searching for an interesting example of what Colgate alumni do with their degrees?

Search no further: a story that appeared this week in The Miami Herald offers an interesting look at Steve Clark, Class of '96.

Clark graduated with a philosophy degree, but instead of heavy-duty soul searching, he turned his attention to Internet searching and is now a "search engine guru," according to the story.
