Students create podcasts for collaborative P-Con project

pconicon.jpgStudents often are asked to put their thoughts on paper. In an Introduction to Peace and Conflict Studies course, they also were asked to put their thoughts on MP3 audio files.

The end result of this collaborative project was 31 episodes of the Marginalized Conflict Podcast Series, which are available here or on iTunes.

In their audio essays, the students analyze past and present conflicts in places such as East Timor, Darfur, Northern Ireland, and West Papua.

New Colgate podcast series features writers and their craft

Colgate professor Peter Balakian, whose book The Burning Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and America's Response was a New York Times bestseller, is the first guest for a new podcast series produced on campus.

The series - Colgate Conversations: Writers and their craft - features authors talking about their unique writing styles and their latest works. Faculty members, alumni, and visiting authors are among those to be interviewed by Matt Leone, organizer of the annual Colgate Writer's Conference.

Researcher discusses digital culture and web 2.0

John Seely Brown, the former chief scientist at Xerox who writes extensively about collective innovation and digital culture, says he grew up at Colgate.

His father was a chemistry professor (1934 to 1968) and his mother a librarian, so Brown was on campus all the time, mostly feeding his interests in computers and astronomy.
