Video cameras to be installed on Colgate Cruisers

By Contributing Writer on February 26, 2015

To the campus community,

The Colgate Cruisers provide a valuable service for the campus community, intended to make it easy for students to get around campus and to safely travel back and forth from downtown.

We want to let you know about an important service enhancement that will provide a safer experience for all riders.

There have been reported instances of abusive behavior in the past on the Cruisers, and those cases were raised during last semester’s demonstration about campus climate. As part of the 21-point road map outlined on the Colgate for All website, we agreed to install cameras in all of the Cruisers.

Cameras are now on each bus, and they will be activated Monday, March 2. Information obtained through the video and audio recordings will be handled in a manner consistent with existing university policies. Students also are reminded to report any incidents or concerns related to the Cruisers to Campus Safety by calling 315-228-7911 or by using this form.

The camera installation is one of several service enhancements planned for the Cruisers. We are working with Student Government Association leaders to improve the routes for the buses and updated schedules will soon be available on our Colgate mobile app.

If you have any questions regarding these changes, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Brian Hutzley
