Fire/Life Safety Inspection

By Contributing Writer on February 22, 2016

The Village of Hamilton Codes Office will be conducting annual required fire / life safety inspections of all university buildings from February 29th thru March 31st. In preparation for this regulatory requirement, the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requests that all university community members review their respective spaces for fire / life safety code compliance. Common violations from past inspections include the following:

  • Blocked egress / exits
  • Sprinkler head / sprinkler pipe obstructions
  • Use of extension cords without an installed protection device / circuit breaker
  • Fire doors propped open
  • Use of candles
  • Covered smoke detectors
  • Improper storage of flammables (ex. propane tanks)

Please contact the Colgate University Fire Safety Manager (Gary Bridge) at ext 6531 if you have any questions regarding the upcoming inspection and/or require assistance conducting a pre-inspection fire safety walk thru of your spaces or correcting a fire code citation. Your cooperation during these important fire / life safety inspections is greatly appreciated.

Very Respectfully,

Gary Bridge
