Safety Advisory: February 25, 2016

By Contributing Writer on February 25, 2016

On February 25, 2016, at approximately 2:00 a.m., two female Colgate students walking back to campus on Broad Street from downtown were followed by an unknown male onto the Willow Path.

According to one of the students, the male was yelling something at them. About halfway down the Willow Path, the other student decided to confront the male and an altercation ensued.

As a result of the altercation, that student was injured and the male ran off. The students continued to a residence hall, where they notified Campus Safety of the incident. Campus Safety responded and transported the injured student to the hospital, where she was treated and released.

The suspect was described as a male, approximately 40 years of age, and spoke with a heavy accent, possibly Southeast Asian. There was no further description. Campus safety officers checked the campus and village areas for the male and were unsuccessful in locating someone matching that description.

Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is encouraged to contact Campus Safety at 315-228-7333. Information may also be provided through the Campus Safety Department’s web page by utilizing the Tip Form.

Campus Safety patrols are continuing to make frequent checks of campus and the surrounding area for the suspect.

For personal safety, members of the campus community are reminded to travel in pairs or larger groups and immediately report any suspicious activity to Campus Safety. Blue Light phones may also be used for reporting incidents.

Campus Safety monitors the crime reports it receives from the campus community and local police agencies and issues alerts or safety advisories to the campus community on any incidents that are considered to be a serious or continuing threat to students and employees.
