ITSAlerts: Printer Management Services (PaperCut) Upgrade

By mark hine on May 20, 2013

ITS will be upgrading software that manages our public printer services (PaperCut NG). Specifically, public access to printing and print release stations will be affected. Users should expect their print requests to simply print during this upgrade, bypassing the hold/release system.

Users may still print during this upgrade, however the printing process will not be controlled by the hold/release system. Data collected by our print management software will not be collected during this upgrade.

Upgrades will begin on Monday May 20th and may extend through Friday May 24th.

This upgrade affects users who print from lab or public machines in Case-Geyer and Cooley Libraries, the O’Connor Lab, the Geology Lab (Ho 203) and the Ledge. This upgrade does not affect printing in offices or printing to department-managed multifunction devices.

ITSAlerts: Moodle Service Outage Thu 5/2 (RESTORED)

By Dan Wheeler on May 3, 2013

Overview:

Starting at approximately 12:30 PM the Moodle server began experiencing significant performance issues. As a result most users were not able to connect to Moodle or use it in any reasonable fashion. Moodle service was restored at about 3:30pm. We are continuing to investigate the cause to ensure that Moodle remains available for our users. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the interruption.

As part of the restoration of services we doubled the Moodle server memory, but we have yet to identify the exact cause of the disruption. We are monitoring Moodle services very closely as the semester nears its end.

Impact:

Access to Moodle was impeded and most users were unable to connect or experienced extremely slow response times.

Time Frame:

ITS staff was automatically notified at 12:30PM by server monitoring software that Moodle performance was being negatively impacted. Full services were restored at about 3:30pm.

Affected Users:

All Moodle users were impacted.
