ITS Alert: Server Hardware Issues Affecting Multiple Services – October, 21, 2013

Services Restored:

Issues affecting today’s slowness and access have been solved. The cause of the issue was due to failed hardware in our data center. All access is restored and running normal.

If you experience any additional slowness and/or access issues, please notify ITS immediately by calling x7111.

Update (3:50PM):

The part has arrived from HP and we are installing it now.

Update (2:22PM):

ITS is still working on moving servers to unaffected hardware and will keep you posted of our progress. Once again we apologize for the inconvenience.

Update (12:43PM):

Our hardware vendor has identified the issue and is sending a part by courier ASAP. Our estimated arrival is approximately 4:30PM at the latest with a repair estimated shortly after arrival. In the meantime, ITS is working to migrate systems to unaffected hardware. We will keep you posted and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Update:

Our supporting hardware vendor is still troubleshooting our issue(s). At this time (11:58A) there is still no Estimated Time for Repair (ETR).

System Event:

An issue with hardware in our data center is causing slow access to multiple services.

Impact:

The following services may experience slow and/or intermittent access:

Bookstore & C-Store services
CAS (Portal, Lynda, Banner Web Authentication)
Crestron Monitoring Server
DHCP & DNS
EMS (Room Scheduling)
Ensemble
Famis
Firebug
Moodle
Nolij
One Card (Gatecard Services)
Picker & MDID
Printing
Portal / UPortal
VPN Services
Public Web Services
DegreeWorks

Time Frame: 

Issues began appearing early this morning. ITS has contacted HP for assistance and is working to resolve the issue.

Affected Users: 

All users may be affected by this issue both on and off campus.
