Thank you very much for answering my concern. Best of luck with your program.

Vickie,
At this time, Colgate has only 5 slots for which it will give less than $5000 per year for a grand total of under 25K a year. On the other hand, the VA will contribute as much as 80% in tuition to Colgate which is possibly more profitable than many other grant and scholarship programs. Not that profit is the primary motivation, but it is a concern for everyone as you have noted. Hopefully we will all profit in many ways from expanding our reach.

While I greatly appreciate and applaud the work of our veterans, I am concerned about the current costs of a Colgate education and the parents paying for this, many of them needing to sell their homes to make ends meet after paying the enormous bills -- as my parents had to and as I will have to. Perhaps Colgate could ameliorate the feelings of these parents by keeping prices frozen for awhile.

- Vickie Stephens Williams '79

This is a great move Colgate!

What else is the university doing to promote awareness about this program?

Is there anything that Colgate grads, who are also veterans, can do to assist? Count me in as someone willing to help.

Wow, Go-Gate, a great big US Army Infantry Ret. HU-AAAAA for us!!! What a year to remember, we again leads the way on the road less traveled! First ROTC returns, now Our Veterans’ have the possibility of achieving a prestigious Colgate Degree; in the past, most probably could never hope to afford one. This is a huge step forward for diversity and inclusion into our small yet flavorful community. We should never forget that thousands of Colgate’s Students, Alumni, Faculty and Employees have honorably and proudly served in our Country’s Defense. From the beginning of the Universities history (13…), they have sacrificed so much or in many cases, everything. Duty, Honor and Country are more than words in a historic MacArthur speech, they are foundational threads in the fabric of our lives. Given this opportunity, Vets will become an integral and influential part of our great institution. Their first hand knowledge and experiences of current history making events bring an unheard yet important voice to the discussion table. Thank you Lyle (and supporters) for bringing this program and our brave Son's and Daughter's home to Colgate. Sincerely John.

- John Robinson
