I have been gratified at the changes at Colgate concerning visibility and the increased ability of LGBTQ students to be themselves. This is such a change from what we suffered at Colgate in the early 60s. It was impossible for me to even disclose my inner feelings to myself and would surely have lost my scholarship if my "tendencies" had been known.

The good side was that I was able to experience life on both sides as I married and had 3 children before, at age 40, I met the man of my life who also had 3 children, and was able to be comfortable with myself. Warren and I have been together for just under 26 years and have 9 grandchildren between us.

It is because of these changes Gay and Lesbian alumni that I will be going back to my first reunion this week-end. I urge all alumni, particularly Gay and Lesbian alumni, to support these efforts at Colgate.

- E. Jeremy Hutton '63
