I am currently a sophomore and planning on double majoring in molecular biology and environmental economics. I have grown up in Morris county New Jersey on a farm my whole life. Through my work on neighborhood farms and through my local watershed, I have come to appreciate the environment around us and learned how to sustainably use the resources we are given. This is my first year as a Green Raider and I am very excited to help take major step towards our goal of carbon neutrality by 2019. On campus, I am also a member of Green Earth Gang, which is a program where students teach second and third graders about environment. In my free time over the summer, I participate in stream and river clean up and teach girl scouts and boy scouts about the local watershed.

I am a junior from Potomac, Maryland and I am an Environmental Economics major. Growing up five minutes away from the Potomac River, I have always appreciated nature. It was not until I came to Colgate, however, that I became involved in sustainability. After taking Earth, Society, Sustainability as my FSEM with professor Klepeis, I realized that it is important to explore practices that will allow society to improve at a minimal cost to the environment. I am excited to be a part of the sustainability team here at Colgate!

As a double major in Biology and Environmental Studies I have been involved in sustainability at Colgate ever since my freshman year. Working in the Office of Sustainability has given me the unique experience of interacting with my own peers in effort to perpetuate environmentally conscious behaviors and mindsets on campus. My interests are in waste materials and how to remove stigma to create opportunities for reuse, and the way that climate change impacts the multidimensionality of ecosystems, including humans, animals, and other life forms. In both scenarios there is opportunity to create full circle systems to induce positive change.

I am a sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina and I am double majoring in Environmental Studies and Studio Art. I have been drawing since I was a kid but I didn’t find my passion for sustainability until high school. I am interested in bridging art and environmental to make sustainability more marketable. I believe that visual representations of sustainability and pertinent environmental issues can cause people to have stronger reactions and push sustainability to be the more sought after, socially acceptable option. As a sustainability intern I hope to inspire Colgate students to make sustainable changes to their individual lives as well as be a part of the campus goal of carbon neutrality.

I am a junior majoring in environmental biology here at Colgate. I grew up outside of Philadelphia and went to the Adirondack State Park in New York every summer with my family. Growing up in these two places, I began to recognize the importance of living sustainably in preserving the beautiful landscapes I was exposed to. As a member of Colgate’s Outdoor Education program, I have learned to help others and myself recognize and appreciate the beauty of being outside.

To me, sustainability is the awareness of the impact one’s lifestyle has on the surroundings and the methods and motivation to lessen that impact to maintain environmental health. The Green Raider program allows me to reach many niches of the Colgate community to promote the importance of preserving the beauty that surrounds us.

I am a sophomore majoring in Geology, and planning on majoring in Environmental Geography as well. I was born and raised in Aspen, Colorado. Having spent my whole life surrounded by the Rocky Mountains I have acquired a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors. Living in a location that is exceedingly susceptible to climate change I have learned the importance of living sustainably in order to preserve the natural world. This is my first year as a Green Raider Intern for the Office of Sustainability and I am very excited to be part of the team. I am particularly interested in issues revolving around climate change, recycling practices, and alternative energy sources. I am looking forward to promoting sustainable practices on campus and moving Colgate closer to the goal of carbon neutrality by 2019 throughout this year!

I’m a senior Environmental Biology major from outside of Richmond, Virginia. In terms of sustainability at Colgate, I’m passionate about food issues and promoting behavioral change among the student body, particularly around consumer choice. After Colgate, I plan to pursue fisheries-related jobs in the western United States, and eventually a graduate degree in Fisheries Science and Management.

I am a senior majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Art & Art History. I am from in Baltimore, Maryland, and grew up being outside most of the time, which has had a great influence on my love of the outdoors and my interest in environmental studies. I am a part of Colgate Outdoor Education, through which I have the privilege of teaching others about our local environment through activities like sea kayaking and rock climbing.

I am passionate about the outdoors and sustainability, with an emphasis on the intersections between policy, hydrology and coastal communities. Being a part of the Green Raider program is so exciting for me because it allows me to raise awareness about environmental issues and make positive change on campus.

I’m a senior majoring in Environmental Economics and minoring in Geography. I’m from Stamford, CT and grew up with an appreciation for nature. To me, sustainability is an important concept to grasp at an age where behaviors and attitudes can still change, such as at the college age. Sustainability reflects an ethos of knowledge and sensitivity towards the needs of present and future generations in relation to the delicate balance between environmental, societal, and economic health that is proving so difficult to attain. This semester I look forward to helping Colgate overcome some barriers related to recycling and waste disposal.

I am a senior double major in Biology and Environmental Studies from Buffalo, NY. I also am a member of the Women’s Varsity Swimming & Diving Team here at Colgate. Sustainability is important to me because it allows you to be responsible for your generation and many generations to come. I believe the transition from living at home to college is the best opportunity for students to pick up environmentally-friendly habits in their everyday life. As a Green Raider, I am excited to help students across campus learn sustainable practices they can incorporate seamlessly into their everyday routines. We have an opportunity as a generation to set precedents for years to come. The Green Raiders are here to guide Colgate to become a powerhouse of sustainable living!
