A Mouthful of Birds tells the stories of seven seemingly ordinary people. Based on Euripides’ “The Bacchae,” an undercurrent of violence seeps into each character’s life through addiction, love, desire, and the human propensity for the irrational. With its focus on women and self-discovery, the play asks who is possessed by whom, and what is ultimately gained—and lost—through possession.
