On Wednesday, April 2, Paul Walsh, Christian A. Johnson Artist-in-Residence in Theater and Professor of Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism at Yale University, will lead a freewheeling discussion of translation and adaptation for the theater, drawing examples from his work with the plays of Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg and his collaborative adaptations with Theatre de la Jeune Lune.
Translation is a profoundly dramaturgical act, based in a meticulous and deeply participatory act of reading, that is at once creative and monstrous. Adaptation can be equally monstrous, but encourages taking greater liberties. Each has its own responsibilities and rewards.
Date: Wednesday, April 2
Time: 4:15–5:45
Location: Lawrence 109
