Jennifer Dias prepares for career in public health at the Health Department

Jennifer Dias ’16 is working with the Madison County Department of Health this summer to enhance their understanding of vulnerable and at-risk populations, community structures and networks within the City of Oneida that may be factors in the event of a community emergency. In June 2013, the community experienced substantial flooding, and in order to be prepared for a future event, the county department suggested this research project.

Fellow combines interest in arts and the environment for three local organizations

Maxine Lammers ’15 is a double major in Studio Art and Environmental Studies at Colgate, and is completing work for three different organizations this summer through the Field School that uses skills she is developing in both of these subjects.

Legal Aid Society hosts two Fellows this summer

The Legal Aid Society of Mid New York (LASMNY) provides legal services in 13 Upstate New York counties to people who cannot afford a lawyer. Two Field School Fellows are working on different projects with the agency this summer.

David Butler ’14 prepares to record Civil War Weekend in Peterboro

David Butler’14 may have just graduated from Colgate but he is still working to leave a mark on the Upstate New York community. This summer, he is working as a Field School Fellow for the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum in Peterboro. NAHOF will be commemorating several significant events in the coming year, including the sesquicentennials of the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery, the end of the Civil War and the death of Abraham Lincoln, the 165th anniversary of the Cazenovia Convention, the 180th anniversary of the inaugural meeting of the New York State Anti-Slavery Society in Peterboro and the 10th anniversary of NAHOF itself, and David is working on plans for NAHOF to recognize each of them.
