Philanthropy Council grant applications now available

By Upstate Institute on January 21, 2011

The Student Philanthropy Council (SPC), currently in its fifth year, is a student-driven foundation operating out of the Upstate Institute at Colgate University. The SPC is accepting grant applications from non-profit organizations operating in the Central Upstate New York region for strategic initiatives that sustain or establish training and education programs focusing on health, vocational skills, environmental issues, literacy and college preparation. Successful applicants will propose initiatives that:

  • Show measurable impact after a one year period
  • Demonstrate long-term sustainability of the program

Preferences will be given to initiatives that collaborate within the community. Grant applications for requests from $1,000 to $6,000 will be accepted. The total funding available for this round is $10,000 made possible by the Brennan Family Foundation. Deadline for submission is Monday, March 7, 2011.

The Request for Proposals can be accessed through the Student Philanthropy Council website.
Two information sessions have been scheduled for potential applicants to meet with members of the Student Philanthropy Council to discuss ideas and questions. These sessions will take place on Wednesday, February 9 and Tuesday, February 15 at 6:00-8:00 pm in the office of the Upstate Institute, 109 Lathrop Hall, Colgate University (for directions to Colgate and a campus map, please see http://www.colgate.edu/about/directionsandmaps).

For any questions or additional information, please contact Student Philanthropy Council member Gray Huffard at (203) 428-1999 or Griffin O’Shea at (631)707-3667 or upstatespc@mail.colgate.edu.
