These buildings will be closed on June 13 and June 14, 2017. All electrical service, including HVAC, fire alarms, and elevators, will be turned off from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., in order to move the electrical switch gear and transformer that supply power to the buildings as part of the Benton Hall construction project.

New Residence Halls

May – June 2017
The construction access road from Hamilton Street to the new residence halls site will be constructed and the perimeter site fencing south of Andrews Hall will be installed. Initial site clearing and grubbing will commence shortly after the proper measures are installed within the site boundaries to limit erosion control during construction.

McGregory Hall and La Casa (OUS) closed June 13 and 14, 2017

By Contributing Writer on May 16, 2017

As part of the Benton Hall construction project, we will be moving the electrical switch gear and transformer that supply power to McGregory Hall and LaCasa (OUS). We had originally planned to do this work last fall, but due to the outage required, we have rescheduled for summer 2017 to limit disruptions to McGregory Hall and LaCasa (OUS).  We have scheduled this work for June 13 and 14, 2017.

During this scope of work, ALL Electrical Service to McGregory Hall and La Casa (OUS) will be shut down from 8:00 a.m.  on June 13  through 5:00 p.m. June 14, 2017, to complete the scheduled work. During this time, the building will be unoccupied and will be shut down to all occupants. With the electrical service down, this will also effect all HVAC systems as well as fire alarms and elevators. This building cannot be occupied during this period due to life safety concerns.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this electrical shutdown and look forward to any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming work. We hope with this advanced notification, planning can be put into place to work around the scheduled shutdown.

2017 Air Conditioner Installations

By Contributing Writer on May 12, 2017

As warm weather makes its entrance, the installation of window air conditioning units is scheduled to begin. As in past years, installation will take place the weeks prior to reunion weekend. Facilities staff will initiate the process at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, and will be complete by approximately Friday, May 26.

All windows must be cleared of any items prior to installation. Please remember that when your office or room is not in use, these units should be turned off. Please do your part and save energy by not setting these units any lower than 76 degrees, Colgate University’s cooling standard.

We apologize for any temporary inconvenience during the short installation process. Thank you for your patience and enjoy the beginning of spring.

Any questions or concerns, please contact Dan McCoach, architectural trades manager, at 315-228-6046 or dmccoach@colgate.edu.

Project updates can also be found on the Campus Construction and Maintenance blog.
