Translator of A Dreamplay to speak at Colgate

Poster for the lecture "Dreaming Modernity:  August Stringberg's 'A Dreamplay'On Tuesday, March 11, Paul Walsh will give a talk entitled “Dreaming Modernity: August Strindberg’s A Dreamplay” at 4:30 p.m. in Lawrence 105 as part of the Arts and Humanities Colloquium Series. A Dreamplay is this semester’s University Theater production (running April 2-6), directed by Simona Giurgea in a new translation by Walsh.

Walsh is Professor of Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism in Yale’s School of Drama. He served for nine years as senior dramaturg at San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater and before that worked closely with the Minneapolis-based Theatre de la Jeune Lune on a number of award-winning productions. His translations of plays by Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg have been produced professionally at theaters across the country including the American Conservatory Theater, Classic Stage Company, Yale Repertory Theater, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and People’s Light and Theater among others. Walsh’s translations of the five Chamber Plays of August Strindberg were published in 2012 by Exit Press after being produced at the Cutting Ball Theater in San Francisco. Walsh received a Ph.D. from the Graduate Centre for the Study of Drama at the University of Toronto and has taught at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
