The-great-pumpkinJoin us in Hamilton, NY as we celebrate our first annual village-wide Halloween Party! Enjoy some spooktacular fun with costume competitions, crafts, trick-or-treating, and a movie! Safe fun for the whole family. Check out the full schedule of events below.

From 3pm – 4pm, head over to the Colgate Bookstore for an “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” Halloween Party! There will be pumpkin crafts, snacks, and goodie bags.

Then, don your costume and join the Costume Parade down Lebanon Street downtown block from 4pm – 4:30pm. Local shops will hand out candies and treats as the children parade in costume to the spookily decorated Hamilton Movie Theater.

Starting at 4:30pm, the Hamilton Movie Theater will play the 1995 film, “Casper” (rated PG) for FREE, thanks to our generous sponsors: Ego Boutique, Rusch’s Bar & Grill, Yogate Frozen Yogurt, No. 10 Tavern, Colgate Inn, Oliveri’s Pizzeria, Hamilton Eatery, Katie Fargo Skin Care, Evergreen Gallery and Gifts, New York Pizzeria– “Slices”, Julie’s Shear Perfection, Steph Boutique, and JJs Salon. The theater will be staffed and safe despite the spooky decorations, so we encourage parents to support the local businesses that made this event possible.

After the movie, stop outside the Colgate Inn’s warming station for a free post-movie hot chocolate or coffee before heading off through Hamilton for a night of safe, fun trick-or-treating.

Please note that the prizes for the costume winners will be handed out AFTER the movie at the Hamilton Movie Theater.

Thought Into Action: Traditions

By Lauren Marshall on September 9, 2016

We are excited to carry a new unnamed-5product: Colgate University bracelets! Student Mike Vitale (’19) is the founder of “Traditions”. Check out their mission statement below.

“With Purpose” only begins to define the attitude we share in designing unique, inspiring clothing and accessories for college campuses nationwide.  Our team is made up of ambitious Colgate students, not the world’s most renowned fashionistas or trademark designers, in order to ensure that we don’t simply slap a school logo onto the fabric that’s been laying around in a massive warehouse for ages.

On the contrary, we custom create from our own ingenuity the pieces in each school’s collection, with a focus on the symbols, stories and traditions that make each 12196110_907890099280481_8546086032136519250_nuniversity undeniably special in their own right.  Our mission as a lifestyle brand is to fill the needs of each individual bookstore when the big box companies won’t deliver.  In addition, we aim to branch out our network as a students for students company, whereas a percentage of the profits made from Traditions will be placed into the well suited hands of Financial Aid at each respective school, to pay it forward when someone affiliated with the university chooses to purchase from our brand.  Today, we ask YOU to begin Dressing With Purpose, starting with Traditions.

August 12th is World Elephant Day! Stop by the bookstore and enjoy free grown-up coloring pages celebrating the beauty of elephants! 13% of the day’s sales will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund.

We will have unique coloring pages on August 12th that feature an African and an Asian elephant holding the world together. So grab all your pencil crayons, markers or paint and join the challenge! Ignite your inner creativity and color your ‪#‎EleeDraw‬, then share your creation on Instagram with the hashtag #Eleedraw and #WorldElephantDay!

Check out the 2015 Canadian documentary film “When Elephants Were Young”, directed by World Elephant Day co-founder Patricia Sims and narrated by William Shatner. Playing at the Hamilton Movie Theater August 10th – August 14th.

World Elephant Day has been created to bring the world together to help elephants. It is a day to honor elephants, to spread awareness about the critical threats they are facing, and to support positive solutions that will help ensure their survival.

We’re calling on animal lovers around the world to rally support for some real-life Ranger Dogs in Kenya that help protect elephants from ivory poachers.

HRD Mutt-Credit David Porras_optBeginning on August 12 you’ll be able to turn your own pet into an Honorary Ranger Dog at this page, Nature.org/RangerDogs. It’ll be simple: Upload a photo, dress up your dog with ranger-themed “stickers,” click submit, and then share your canine hero in social media.

Your Honorary Ranger Dog will help create buzz to attract people to an online fundraiser where a donor can get “treats” for helping us provide three Ranger Dogs with their most essential needs for a full year, including food, medical care, security gear and basic expenses for human rangers that care for them.
