Campus Advisory – Deer Culling Begins December 23

By Contributing Writer on December 22, 2015

To the campus community:

As the Village of Hamilton moves forward with its initiative to reduce the local deer population in concert with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Colgate has designated two carefully chosen areas of the Seven Oaks Golf Course to serve among the dozen cull sites within the village limits.

This initiative was developed and informed in part by academic, faculty-led research conducted under the auspices of Colgate’s Upstate Institute.

Archers at the Seven Oaks sites will be university cull participants who have volunteered their time and have undergone the same background checks and training as other cull participants.

The overall effort commences on Dec. 23, 2015. As a precaution, members of the campus community are advised to refrain from walking on the golf course until further notice. The community will be informed when the culling initiative is completed.
