Student life in Freiburg

By nicole on May 19, 2014

Studying abroad in Freiburg is a really unique because you must really immerse yourself into the regular life of a German student. Many study abroad programs in Germany allow you only to take classes with fellow Americans and at a time when most German are not at University. These types of programs really take away the purpose and joy of studying abroad. If you would like to take classes with Americans you might as well stay in New York. The Freiburg Study Group gives you the opportunity to take classes among other German students and to live with German students as well. It is a challenge taking classes in German, but you get the unique experience of immersing yourself into student life in Germany. Since we also live in the German student housing, I am able to practice a lot German. I was lucky because both my roommates do not speak English so I am forced to speak German everyday. Most German students ride their bike to the university and use it for their mode of transportation, so I found it useful to also buy a cheap bike for the semester. This is my fourth time studying abroad and I find this program to be one of the best I had ever taken.
