What I do in my free time

By michael on May 19, 2014

Finally back in Freiburg, I noticed the lack of scheduled activities, tours, museum visits and theater shows, which had all played such a role in our travels through the German speaking cities, and realized that I needed something new to fill my time. Freiburg lies in the center of some small mountains covered in network of biking trails and walking paths, so I decided to make use of these trails. The mountains around Freiburg hide several sights worth the effort of walking up a mountain. For example, my most recent hike took me to an observation tower at the top of one of the highest peaks. From the top of the tower, I could see several wind turbines, the whole of Freiburg and an expanse of farmland stretching out in all directions. On a previous day, I was shown a trail inhabited by Waldmenschen, or trees and logs carved like people or animals. It was an exhibition of twenty or so carvings, particularly dealing with mythical themes, like giants, dragons, magicians and the like. Every walk leads me to something new, something worthwhile, and I hope that trend continues.
